²³ They and their children were responsible for guarding the gates of the temple of the Lord (the shrine of the tabernacle) by turns. ²⁴ The gatekeepers served in the four directions of the east, the west, the north, and the south. ²⁵ Their brethren who lived in the villages would come up to join them for a period of seven days from time to time.
